LOTRO Ravaging of Cardolan Deed Guide | Before the Shadow

The final part of the exploration deeds in LOTRO’s Cardolan region is the Ravaging of Cardolan. This has a similar feel to Dwellers of Old Swanfleet in that you have to find some items.

But you can’t just ride around quickly and grab them all, oh no! All but one you can, so here are all the locations, information and minimaps to help. So let’s get cracking.

Ravaging of Cardolan Deed Locations

March 2023: after working to clear these deeds on my dedicated “Before the Shadow” character, I’ve made a few corrections. Do let me know if you spot others, though!

Oath Plaque

Coordinates: 53.5S, 53.5W
Unlike the Levee Plaque, the Oath-Plaque is, in fact a plaque. You can find it upstairs at Gaervarad. Head up the stairs and do a 180° turn, and you’ll see it on the wall:

Stone Seat

Coordinates: 39.6S, 50.6W

As with the Oath Plaque, the Stone Seat is above ground level. You’ll need to head upwards in Dol Ernil.

To the right as you reach the top of the steps, is a pillared section guarded by some Ancient Evil enemies. Head in there and turn left:

Deadmount Obilisk

Coordinates: 44.3S, 29.2W

The next item on your Ravaging of Cardolan deed checklist is the Deadmount Obelisk. You will find this in Amon Firn.

And it is huge, like really huge. While I have put coordinates, you won’t need them once you reach Amon Firn!

Ashmound Memorial

Coordinates: 44.1S, 51.7W

The Ashmound Memorial is really out of the way. And, while it’s in Tyrn Gorthad, it’s almost on the southern border.

The memorial is just resting against a hillside, with nothing obscuring it. Once you reach the map indicator, you should be able to see it. If not, use your “select nearest object/item” shortcut key.

Scroll of Luilloth

Starts: Stonecrop Encampment

Okay, so the Scroll of Luilloth portion of the Ravaging of Cardolan Deed is unusual compared to the others. In fact, it’s different to discovery and exploration deeds in general. This is because you cannot discover it until you’ve followed a quest-chain.

History of Luilloth

Luilloth is a historical figure, whose statue enscription reads “Princess, Mother, Wife, Champion.” (I when I found it.).

You join up with Rhiangar to uncover the story behind Luilloth. This begins with The Wayward MayorExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab). The quest that ticks of The Scroll of Luilloth is The Deciphered ScrollExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab).

You can find Rhiangar initially at Stonecrop Encampment. You then embark on a journey of discovery together. Enjoy!

Levee Plaque

Coordinates: 56.7S, 37.4W

Despite being the last item on the list for the Ravaging of Cardolan Deed, the Levee Plaque has a chance of being the first you discover.

This is because you can find it in Tharbad. Head towards the coordinates or map point and it’s sat at the bottom of some steps, before a marshy area:

Put all the mini-maps together and here’s one large one to help you. Just remember the Scroll of Luilloth is a quest-chain, not a hit-and-run item.

  • Title Seeker of the Vanished Realm
  • Virtue XP +1,000 VXP
  • Reputation +700 Dúnedain of Cardolan

TL;DR The Shadow Falls with the Ravaging of Cardolan Deed

I kind of like the fact that LOTRO gated one of these items behind a quest chain. It stops you from just haring around ticking things off and engages you in the lore, history and stories behind this area. Because of the quest-related one, The Ravaging of Cardolan Deed might be the last one you finish of the exploration deeds here. Just remember to enjoy it, take time to “Stop and Stare”. There’s enough work in the world, don’t make gaming less enjoyable while deeding! Cyas later, LOTRO friends.
