LOTRO Perils of Cardolan Deed Guide and Map by FibroJedi

It’s good to be back in the swing of guide writing again. Even in high pain, it gives me a focus. Today we’re going to look at the LOTRO Perils of Cardolan Deed. Spread across the region, these locations are dangerous for many different reasons; disease is rife, wolves or wargs roam, the Dead shamble about and people are taken captive.

But do not despair, for character is shown through deeds! So here are all the places you need to visit, maplets of their locations and nearby Cardolan Slayer Deed targets too.

Let’s go!

Perils of Cardolan Locations

Amon Firn

Coordinates: 44.5S, 29.1W

Amon Firn is a strange ruin, not because of the stones but because of who you find here. There are Half-Orcs and the Dead (Slayer of Cardolan Deed targets). But they’re not in cahoots, but actually fighting each other.

Caranost

Coordinates: 45.3S, 41.8W

Caranost is part of a sprawling ruin right in the centre of Cardolan. Its map marker is West of Sírlond and these two places are joined by an enormous bridge.

There are different levels to this ruin, as you’ll see when you do the quests here. But it’s also a happy hunting ground for the Orc-Slayer of Cardolan Deed

Dol Ernil

Coordinates: 40.0S, 50.7W

Dol Ernil is, as its Sindarin name implies, a hill. It’s also really obviously marked on the map!

You can reach it quickly by taking the taxi to Andrath then walking/riding South-West. You’ll also find plenty of Dead-Slayer of Cardolan enemies here.

Gaervarad

Coordinates: 53.6S, 53.6W. However, I mapped the location at 53.4S, 54.1W.

Gaervarad’s marker only just fits onto the map! That’s because the ruin is situated right next to the “Cardolan” scroll title. It sits in the very South West, with the nearest settlement being Sarn Ford.

This structure is overrun with brigands. As such, there are no slayer targets here. However, there is an Oath Plaque on the upper level at 53.5S, 53.5W, which constributes to the Ravaging of Cardolan Deed.

The nearest is Wylvenclove, but that’s not really “near”!

Gond Orchal

Coordinates: 42.0S, 45.2W

Gond Orchal is a hill of low-lying barrows, a place that should be for permanent burial. However, with evils stirring and the passing of the Black Riders through the area, the Dead roam here.

These aren’t in huge numbers. But as a few quests bring you here, you may as well clear some off your Slayer of Cardolen Deed.

Haudh Nírui

Coordinates: 41.1S, 31.4W

I originally approached Haudh Nírui with trepidation. As one who has cleared the Barrow-Downs deeds a number of times, anything with Haudh in the name usually meant Wight-Slayer targets!

Thankfully, despite this being a tomb, no dead are walking here. However Haudh Nírui, located just North-East of Scurloc Farm, is infested with Goblins.

Nímbarth

Coordinates: 49.8S, 31.6W

Nímbarth is one of a few locations for the Perils of Cardolan Deed in the very East of the region. I’ve yet to find an “easy” way to get here, but I get lost in real life, so it’s only natural to do the same online!

You can reach here by swimming across the river from Nagenstones. This ruin has a couple of levels to it and is inhabited by Half-Orcs and a few Goblin riders.

That is, Goblins riding Wargs, not enemies riding goblins. Though that would be funny to see.

Nettinglade

Coordinates: 42.0S, 54.5W

If you started your LOTRO adventures in Before the Shadow, you won’t have experienced spiders in the Old Forest. Or got lost in Weaver’s Den!

To make up for it, SSG have given you Nettinglade! Confusingly, Nettinglade maps (or ‘ticks off’) in quite a large area around the stone structure I show here. There is no Spider-slayer Deed in Cardolan so do your quests and ruuuuun!

Slayer Targets

None. However, if you’re a Hobbit or Beorning you can progress:

Sarch Vorn

Sarch Vorn is both a location you can discover on the landscape and a dungeon. You can reach it in the northern part of the South Old Forest not far from the Andrath stable-master.

The Dead roam within Sarch Vorn, the Black GraveExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab), but you can also find Barrow-Candles outside. They count for Slayer of Cardolen.

On the off-chance you came into Cardolan from Bree-land, the road through the South-Guard Ruins brings you to Andrath.

Everstead

Coordinates: 46.3S, 28.7W

While I haven’t quite finished the Epic in Cardolan, I feel like I’ve missed a quest somewhere. Everstead appears to be the location of a number of sick wild animals.

You can find it in the very East of the region, North-East of Nímbarth and South of Amon Firn.

Amon Firn
Nimbarth

Hove Farm

Coordinates: 42.1S, 36.6W

A number of quests from Scurloc Farm bring you to Hove Farm. As you can tell, things are hardly going well here either. Goblins have overrun it, lit fires and tied up some prisoners.

You can make some progress on the Goblin-Slayer of Cardolen Deed here too. Just ignore how quickly your rescued captives respawn!

Tharbad

Tharbad is enormous! And you’re highly likely to have triggered the Perils of Cardolan Deed really early on in your Swanfleet adventures.

There’s a quest that sends you to scout Tharbad at a very low level. So don’t get too close if that’s you! Focus on Swanfleet Deeds instead!

Nearby Perils

None. Well, except said Orcs.

Nagenstones

Coordinates: 47.0S, 32.7W

Per the WikiExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab) the Nagenstones used to be an “extravagant home”.

Needless to say (a phrase we use just before saying something allegedly “needless”!), that isn’t the case any more. There are no slayer targets here, only Wargs.

None, but if you’re a Race of (Wo)man, you can progress the Enmity of the WargsExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab) deed here.

Wylvenclove

Coordinates: 45.9S, 49.1W

You’re likely to make at least a couple of trips here if you do all the side-quests. And, at least on your first run, you should do all the side-quests!

Wylvenclove is a small but beautiful lake not far from a bunch of wolves (hence the name, I guess).

I had to get to the specific coordinates to tick it off my Perils list. I found this odd, considering how wide some of the other areas in Before the Shadow are.

TL;DR Explore the Perils of Cardolan, If You Dare

Compared to the Perils of Swanfleet, Cardolan’s challenges are far more sinister and offensive. If it’s not the dead walking, then enemies taking over and desecrating the tombs gives the locals mental difficulties as well as the physical ones.

The Perils of Cardolan are found all over the map, so I hope this wee guide has helped you out. I’ll see you soon for more LOTRO Before the Shadow goodness.
