LOTRO Treasure of Cardolan Deed Guide | Before the Shadow

Our journey through the various deeds of Cardolan continues with the Treasure of Cardolan Deed.

As we have already seen in the Swanfleet region of Before the Shadow, Cardolan’s treasure caches are hidden in some really obscure locations! I’m sure the developer in charge of this one delights at making them – rightfully – difficult to find.

Thankfully for you, I have compiled all the Cardolan treasure caches, each with its own minimap. And lastly, I made you nice shiny region map to show them all.

Let’s get started, eh?

If You’re Near a Cache But Can’t See It…

Then make sure you know what your select nearest item and select next item keybinds are. I have found using this a fab way of making up for my lack of observation skills!

Treasure of Cardolan Locations

There are thirteen caches to be found all-in-all. I’ll take you through each one, but also highlight other nearby deeds that can be progressed at the same time.

Each one here has a number, which corresponds to their number on the Deed Map below.

If you do the side quests in Cardolan, you’ll find this one the same way I did – by accident!

It’s on the western edge of the small lake near Wylvenclove.

Nearby Deeds

Wylvenclove (Perils of Cardolan)

Treasure Cache Map

Just off the road to/from Sarn Ford in the far West of Cardolan lies a small ruin. There are a lot of those in Cardolan, so get used to it.

The Treasure Cache you seek is just against one of the walls. Use floaty names to see it clearer, especially if it’s daytime and not rainy.

Nearby Deeds

Gaervarad (Perils of Cardolan)

Sarn Ford (LOTRO Inhabitants of the Vanished Realm Deed)

3. South of Herne

54.7S, 45.7W

And by that I mean really South! Again, if you head South then, before you hit the rock wall, turn just off the path, there are some really obvious pillars.

So obvious, you’ll see them before I’ve just mentioned. Maybe. This treasure cache is against one of those, though how visible it is will depend completely on which direction you’re coming from!

Nearby Deeds

None known.

4. Near the Lone-lands Entrance

38.3S, 40.1W

I should have known to look here, to be honest. It’s nowhere near any of the other deeds. But LOTRO-Wiki (link below) had to bail me out of this one. It is in the South Downs, but to the West of the road that leads to the Lone-lands.

This time, the ruin is actually pretty large. Depending which direction you’re travelling, you may have to go around the wall (or through the arch) to reach it.

Nearby Deeds

None known.

5. Caranost

46.0S, 42.1W

Finding the Treasure Cache in Caranost is a bit of a slog if you’re within green-mob range. And the buildings can be tricksy to navigate around too.

But if you keep going up, eventually you come to a darker chambre with a campfire. Your treasure is on the other side to where you come in.

Nearby Deeds

Orc-Slayer of Cardolan (Slayer of Cardolan).

Caranost (Perils of Cardolan).

Sírlond (Inhabitants of the Vanished Realm).

6. Near Everstead

45.9S, 27.4W

For the love of sanity, if you’re coming out here for the Treasure of Cardolan Deed, please map Everstead at the same time! Don’t come all this way, just to have to trudge back.

And, oh would you look at that – the treasure cache is in a ruin! I did warn you.

Nearby Deeds

Everstead (Perils of Cardolan).

Amon Firn (Perils of Cardolan).

7. Haudh Nírui

40.6S, 31.0W

In theory, if you end up running the quests around Haudh Nírui, you should easily find the Treasure Cache.

If you need pointers, all you have to do is go down one level and turn left. You end up in the correct room. As it’s pretty dark down here, it won’t be hard to spot!

Nearby Deeds

Haudh Nírui (Perils of Cardolan).

Goblin-Slayer of Cardolan (Slayer of Cardolan)

8. Sedgemead (South)

51.1S, 36.7W

No other deeds that I’ve done so far bring you here. But I still have the Ravaging of Cardolan to do, so there’s still a chance.

However, in the South of Sedgemead there’s a ruin of a circular building. You’ll find your Treasure of Cardolan nestled against one of the pillars. It’ll almost certainly be hidden a bit when you approach the ruin, but it’s there!

9. Sedgemead (Central)

49.0S, 36.1W

Sneaky LOTRO devs, making us think all caches would be in different regions. But, no, hah! There are two in Sedgemead.

The easiest way to describe reaching it is to head for the middle “E” on the Sedgemead map label. Then look around for some shallow water with pillars sticking up out of it.

As well as the “nearest item” keybind, I find having floaty names on (default key “N”) really helps me to find things during in-game daytime.

10. Tharbad

55.7S, 36.9W

The map’s coordinates for this Treasure Cache only tell part of the picture. Yes, it’s in Tharbad, but it’s in the smallest bit North of the path.

Once you reach the coordinates above, you’re underneath it. The steps upwards start at 55.5S, 36.8W. You need to go up two floors.

It’s a clever spot, because you could easily miss it – then berate yourself for having missed it!

Orc-slayer of Cardolan (Slayer of Cardolan)

11. Tyrn Gorthad

45.0S, 53.0W

This was a bit of a pain to reach, but it was mostly my fault. I tried to approach it from the South, which didn’t work for me. The North and North-East are much easier. You could prove me wrong, and I’d be fine with that!

You’ll never guess what you might find when you reach 45.0S, 53.0W? A ruin – it’s a shocking revelation, I know.

The Treasure Cache is technically on the second floor, but there are just a few steps. A ledge is all that remains of the second floor, really.

Nearby Deeds

Dol Ernil (Perils of Cardolan)

Dead-slayer of Cardolan (Slayer of Cardolan)

12. Dol Ernil

39.7S, 50.5W

Behind the huge walls of Dol Ernil are mostly intact structures that just happened to be inhabited by the dead. Nothing too major, then.

To find this Treasure Cache, find the building with the long flight of steps upwards. At the top is a statue in a circle of pillars.

Instead of heading there, instead turn right. Behind these pillars you’ll find your Treasure Cache.

The Stone Seat, part of the Ravaging of Cardolan Deed, is also past those steps.

Nearby Deeds

Dead-slayer of Cardolan (Slayer of Cardolan)

Gerwyn’s Convoy (Inhabitants of the Vanished Realm).

13. The Old Forest

37.5S, 55.5W

“A tidy little cottage in the middle of a dangerous wood!”

Bingo Boffin, referring to a totally different cottage, but the same wood. Sort of.

In the mists and murk of the Southern Old Forest is the oddest sight. A minute cottage with its owner (Henbran, from The Hag of the Old ForestExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab)) standing outside and chickens happily clucking nearby.

I just hope it’s not her treasure you’re stealing. When you look around, you can see the Treasure Cache behind her metal fence.

To be honest, reaching this place was a pain for me to navigate. It’ll probably be easier for you, but I’ve always struggled to navigate through parts of the Old Forest.

If reading this little text still seemed “too long”, then utilise my coordinates and map above. You may still need to use your “select next/nearest item” keybind, but at least you’ll be close.
