To gain access initially, there are two ways:

1. Use the special stable at Bree (I guess we have water-walking taxis now!)
2. Or speak to Ikhajât, who you can find in various locations.

I think it makes some “sense” to use the NPC first because they’re inviting you to their land.

When you speak to them, they give you a quest called A Midsummer Getaway that takes you to the island.

Where are the Umbari NPCs?

You can find them in five locations.

1. Bree → The Prancing Pony: As you enter the inn, she’s leaning against a pillar ahead of you and on the left.
2. Ered Luin → Duillond → Festival Garden: 24.6S, 93.0W
3. Ered Luin → Thorin’s Hall → Thorin’s Hall Inn: 13.4S, 103.2W
4. Minas Tirith (Midsummer): as you head into the city from the main gate, Ikhajât is sat on the wall outside the City Stables.
5. The Shire → The Party Tree: Just off to one side of the Party Tree around (29.9S, 71.4W), leaning up one of the poles.

How Do You Get to Furtherholm?

Or “how do you get to the Midsummer beach?” and similarly-worded questions. There are two methods, almost identical to the unlock ones.

1. Use “Festival Travel to Furtherholm” horses. So far, I’ve only found one at Bree West Gate.
   Somewhere it read that these are at “other festival locations” but I’ve not found one anywhere else, but there are a couple of places I have yet to check.
2. Find Ikhajât who will transport you. This time, you are given a “quasi-quest” called Return to Furtherholm

Midsummer Token Maximum Reminder

Maximum 250 Midsummer Tokens/Character

If you get to Furtherholm and busy yourself with all the quests, you may forget this thing: there is a cap on the maximum Midsummer Tokens you can carry.

The cap is 250 Midsummer Tokens per Character.

So, if you near it, or hit it, be sure to trade some for Midsummer Festival Rewards so you don’t lose any tokens.

Both the island and the settlement are…snug – the settlement especially. Even if LOTRO has layers for it, Furtherholm could feel a tad crowded. Here’s how I’m going to try to be considerate of other players here:

• Walk/run or use a Hobby-horse in the settlement area.
• Try to talk to NPCs with a distance between myself and them.
• Try not to chase away more seagulls than I need to. (See A Flock of Seagulls)

Another option is turning off cosmetic pets – except kites as you have to use one for Let’s Go Fly a Kite. If my Lore-master goes to the beach, there’s no need for him to take his combat creatures.

There are no enemies/monsters on the whole island of Zír Aktar. Any creatures you come across are non-aggressive. Well, the cats can be aggressive, but they don’t trigger combat!

The aim is “find potential visitors” in each location. These are helpfully labelled “Potential Visitor”, and where you can find them is marked on your map. But there is a catch.

• You have to successfully invite someone (one person) to visit Furtherholm.
• But do not bother people (3 chances).

How Do You Successfully Invite Someone for Gathering Guests?

The trick is how the NPCs are behaving:

1. Wait for the NPC’s quest-ring to disappear
2. If their action after that is negative, sad or includes a shake of the head invite them.
3. If their action is positive, happy or includes a nod of the head do not invite them.

Unlike Gathering Guests, Assisting the Cook thankfully takes place right on the island. Just how we like it. As with any cooking NPC quest-giver, he’s out of ingredients. (Don’t get me started on one in King’s Gondor that had run out of bowls, meat and vegetables).

For Sâghlem, you need to obtain

1. Fresh Herbs × 4
2. Juicy Lemons × 4
3. Handfuls of Olives × 4

He says that they grow on the hillside “above the beach”. So, I say, make sure you enjoy some of the sights higher up!

Quest Walkthrough

The guest chambres are through larger doors inside the Cracked Flagon. There are four in total. Even in rooms with more than one bed, only one needs making.

On Bullroarer, the beds were really finicky. Enabling floaty names (“N” key by default) does make clicking them somewhat easier.

Sea-shells Locations

The shells are plenty and not difficult to find, but if you want some coordinates, tap below.

Just on the off-chance you haven’t heard of castles made of sand, Merkhâma explains their decorative appeal. Along with a brief demonstration of the size of people that would inhabit such a fortress! Well, if you did the Anniversary Scavenger Hunt, the Sand-castle of Evendim is one such example!

She would like you to go to four places and build four castles to “add to the festive mood”. In fact they look suspiciously similar to the Evendim one. That despite the sand being nicer in the Shield Isles than in Evendim.

You will need to unlock the LOTRO Fishing Hobby to undertake this quest. There is a Hobby-master in the settlement at (4.3S, 119.9W) and you can unlock it there.

Merkhâma is sometimes asked about where the good fishing spots are in Furtherholm. Clearly she’s not “quite sure”, so sends you to fish in various spots. Make sure you have a little bag space before starting this quest as you pick up quest items when fishing.

Quest Walk-through

Note: although “swirls” with fish in show the spot, you don’t need to get your line cast into that swirl.

• Harbour Pier (4.3S, 118.8W): look for the glowing bit of water next to two very angry fishing NPCs! You get a Glittering Fish.
• West Side of the Harbour (4.1S, 119.1W): just use your map to find this one.
• Waterfall above the Harbour (3.7S, 119.6W) and (3.7S, 119.7W) – I cannot find this spot. Or rather, I can find the spot, but it’s not recognised and there are no “fishy swirls” there. I guess my observational and navigational skills are lacking.
• Sandbar (3.7S, 119.6W): thanks to the Wiki for this, because I cannot see what I’m doing wrong here!

Thirsty Beachgoer

(3.9S, 119.0W)

When you've helped the Thirsty Beachgoer in the Offering to Help quest, she tells you that you're blocking her view.

Get a “refreshing” and “strong” drink from the Cracked Flagon tavern.

When you’ve done this, she tells you to move on because you’re spoiling her view. Her view:

Relaxing Holidayer

(4.3S, 119.1W)

Fetch her Captivating Book from a room in the Cracked Flagon so someone else doesn’t steal her seat. Her room is on the eastern side of the tavern.

Unsettled Sightseer

(4.7S, 118.6W)

He hates sand, it’s rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. He wants something like a cushion to sit on.

The rug is just outside the door to the Cracked Flagon.

The cushion – not just something like one – is outside the front door to the Cracked Flagon at 3.9S, 118.8W.

Hopeful Suitor

He is just up the beach from the Unsettled Sightseer at 4.9S, 119.9W. Just wants you to “nip on over to the tavern” to fetch a picnic.

He did not have the foresight to procure one for himself and his hopefully-soon lady-friend. I’m sure sure that cluelessness was most endearing.

The picnic basket is next to the side entrance of The Cracked Flagon at 3.8S, 118.9W. Sadly it is empty. Blame the seagulls, the Hopeful Suitor probably will.

Take the empty basket to the cook inside the tavern (Sâghlem, who is your NPC for Assisting the Cook). He does seem to take into account the fact that the couple might be courting when deciding what to fill the basket with.

Don’t forget to pick up the Filled Picnic Basket before running back to the Hopeful Suitor.

Is it the same couple or did the first lady leave him already?

Wait, what? Did the couple get changed for their picnic? Is that the same lady?

Queer Merrymaker

This NPC is further down the beach again at (4.9S, 119.0W). What does he want? To be buried in the sand, of course! That wasn’t what you were expecting?

Oh, when he yells “More!” he doesn’t have a quest ring. Just right-click him again and you bury him some more. Don’t worry, he can still breathe.

Hopefully. He’s happy…so that’s close enough! Moving on…

They really should have trained Merkhâma better. She’s one that many come to with questions yet sub-contracts that to you. Huzzah. This time your aim is to find good swimming spots out…by swimming in various spots. The clue’s in the totally-cryptic quest name.

Let’s just hope you don’t drown, or are electrocuted by the sea-life, before you can warn people not to swim there!

“As a mariner, I usually prioritize staying on the boat and not ending up in the water. I do not understand people who go in the water on purpose…” (Merkhâma)

Swim at:

• The West side of the harbour: not a bad place to swim, but it is a bit public.
• Southern Cove: the water is warm and perfect for swimming.
• Northern Channel: the water in the channel is calm and warm. (So long as the visitors stay away from the ginormous waves crashing a bit further into the sea…)
• Western Beach: the water is cold and the waves are a bit much.
• South-western Beach: this is a nice quiet place to swim. (At least it will be so long as the staff don’t direct too many people here!)

All these locations are marked on your main map.

Sometimes you just get a LOTRO quest where you think “I’ve never thought of it like that before”. Maghôrdo wants you to remove flotsam from the beach – sounds peaceful enough, right?

Well, he’s worried that visitors might be saddened to see the flotsam and think of people being lost in shipwrecks. He might be overthinking it, but at least he cares. So let’s calm him down and just clean up the beaches, yes?

Quest Objectives

You…chase them off. Thankfully, you don’t have to “shoo” them, unlike the crows in the Wistmead Wheat-maze. Just running up to them will do it. And if one reappears near you you can chase it off again. I’m glad, just because that’s realistic.

In fact, you can chase them off even after you’ve chased your allotted number! Do be conscious of other players though. It’s quite funny to do that on your own – but not so much if you annoy someone else.

Don’t chase off an Irksome Seagull, just to become an Irksome Player.

If you choose “yes”, Maghôrdo is relieved and accepts “you cannot always make everyone happy”. In this case, he sends you to give treats to cats to get them to return and to stay.

If you choose “no”, Maghôrdo thinks you’re (also) correct. This time it’s on the basis that the Captain has told to make it as best as possible for the visitors. So, sadly, he tells you to go and “shoo” the cats.

I didn’t like shooing the cats – but I do have three of them in so-called Real Life. LOTRO have put in appropriate sounds and reactions from the cats though.

If you complete both the “Yes to Cats” and “No to Cats” quests, you complete the deed Cat Confusion.

The Let’s Go Fly a Kite quest is from Tâlugar (4.4S, 119.0W) who also sells a load of kites. He tries to regale you with what flying a kite is like (just in case you didn’t know. Flying kites is part of Farmers Faire by the way. Also, in case you didn’t know).

But being the good salesman he is, he also says you should have a new kite to make your friends envy you.

He decides that you should go “let loose your favourite kite” from several locations and hopefully bring a “flock” of customers his way.

Quest Walk-through

• See if you already have a kite “pet”. Open the Character Panel and press “Skills”. Search for “kite”. If not, then you can acquire a few Midsummer Kites for festival tokens from Tâlugar or the events reward vendor outside the Cracked Flagon. See Kite Vendor for additional ones that can be purchased for Mithril.
• Summon one of your kites.
• Head to the locations marked on your map.

You should spend the Midsummer Festival wherever you have the most fun or satisfaction. However, reasons to spend some or all of it here are:

1. A change of scenery from Minas Tirith
2. The new, summery beach environment and it’s broad, open skies and horizon.
3. To play “spot the reference” (I have found three non-LOTR references so far).
4. New NPC dialogue, including humour.
5. Area-specific titles and deeds.
6. Except around the settlement, FPS is better than Minas Tirith (for me, at least!)

If, like me, you’ve been running the Midsummer Festival since it was first introduced, you might be wanting a change of scenery. Furtherholm brings a true beach-feeling to Midsummer without breaking the sense of being somewhere in Middle-earth.

The 2025 cosmetic rewards are of a style not seen for many years in the so-called real world, so they fit, too. Enjoy your time there and do your best to make sure other players have fun at Furtherholm too.
