LOTRO Explorer of the Angle, Sites of the Angle and Enemies of the Angle Deeds

The Explorer of the Angle Deed in Mitheithel is divided into two parts. The first is grouped together as “sites” while the other is classified as “enemies”, for obvious reasons. If you do all of the questlines available to you, you will visit all of these locations anyway. But, to make it easier – and to entice you to visit these places, I’ve given a map and some screenshots for you to enjoy. There are three distinct storylines as part of the Angle so, as I did with the Wildwood of Bree-land, I won’t be giving any story spoilers here. The best part of starting new regions in LOTRO is to go explore. So let’s do that now!

Sites of the Angle Deed | Enemies of the Angle Deed

Sites of the Angle Deed

Fernbrake Cot

Coordinates: 39.4S, 17.4W

Fernbrake Cot is home to the Stagshorn family and their chickens. They are part of the questline involving the Elf Ravaedron, so you should expect to visit here a few times.
You can find the Cot just South of Tham Lumren, but much lower down. There is a safe route down, so you don’t have to go cliff-diving!

Other Deed Objectives Nearby

Tham Lumren

Coordinates: 38.6S, 17.4W

The next exploration location for Sites of the Angle is Tham Lumren. It is the furthest East camp in the Angle of Mitheithel. You will not get a warm welcome when you first arrive, but you can earn the trust of the Elves here.

Cuan Lúth Refuge

Coordinates: 41.6S, 23.4W

LOTRO have used Welsh as the language of the Dunlendings. Anyone who has played Dunland and/or Enedwaith will know that “Lúth” is “clan” in English. I had to look up “CuanExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab)” as it’s not a clan I’ve encountered before and it means you meet some Dunlendings of the Owl Clan.

The Cuan Lúth are part of one of the three storylines in the Angle of Mitheithel and you will not be allowed inside straight away. However, this entry for the Sites of the Angle Deed completes outside.

Other Deed Objectives Nearby

  • Evil Man Slayer of the Angle (the Dunlendings just outside and in the cave are not enemies).
  • Creature Slayer of the Angle
  • Tornhad

Gaerond

Coordinates: 34.7S, 22.1W

Gaerond is the first location you visit when starting the Angle of Mitheithel. And it is from here that you’ll be sent deeper into the region.

Tornhad

Coordinates: 42.5S, 23.3W
The last location we go sightseeing at is the village of Tornhad. If I remember right, all three questlines pass through here at some point.

This is a quest hub and is where the Guide/Muster/Return to Tornhad bring you back to. You can acquire these at Acquaintance Standing with the Defenders of Mitheithel for 15 × Marks of the Angle.

Facilities at Tornhad

Being the only “real” settlement you visit in the Angle, Tornhad has a bit more available compared to the other camps you visit.

Sites of the Angle Deed Map

Just to help you out, here’s my map for the Sites of the Angle Deed part of the overall Explorer Deed.

Sites of the Angle Rewards

  • LOTRO Points × 5
  • Marks of the Angle × 10
  • Virtue XP × 1,000
  • Reputation +500, Defenders of the Angle

Enemies of the Angle Deed

The second half of the Explorer of the Angle Deed is Enemies of the Angle. It’s an interesting name for something that’s not a slayer deed. Though there are targets here that do count towards the slaying objectives, this exploration deed is more like “strongholds exploration”. Different types of enemies have overrun the ruins former Elven and Dúnedain buildings.

Note: the respawn of mobs in these places appears to be very quick. If you spot another player defeating a shedload of enemies here (which may be for a deed or a quest, remember), leave them to it and come back later. It’s better than trying to compete.

Eitheldir

Coordinates: 36.2S, 22.7W

Eitheldir is the first ruin you encounter after departing Gaerond. And, to be frank, you can’t miss it because it’s enormous and on a really tall hill!

This has been turned into a massive base for Orcs, and is therefore the highest concentration of Orc-kind you’ll find for the slayer deed. Some are at Thelgarth but that is alongside brigands.

Nearby Deed Objectives

Glynafon

Coordinates: 40.0S, 18.3W

I’m going to get this out of my system now: look around for other players before you slaughter all the Wargs for the deed. At least two quests involve taking a certain number of Wargs out in Glynafon. It is the highest concentration of animals for Beast-Slayer in the Angle, but equally there are a lot on the landscape. Please be considerate.

Nearby Deed Objectives

Ost Waeren

Coordinates: 38.4S, 22.3W

Ost Waeren is approximately due South of Eitheldir. It is a very small ruin, so I ask that you be sensitive to other players who may be trying to clear quest objectives. Respawn times throughout the Angle seem quite quick, so apply some patience if you’re trying to clear the deeds.

Nearby Deed Objectives

  • Dead-Slayer of the Angle

Thelgarth

Coordinates: 44.6S, 22.9W

Thelgarth is the furthest South ruin in the whole of the Angle of Mitheithel. It is overrun by Orcs and brigands, and makes for a worrying situation for the inhabitants of Tornhad, which is just North of Thelgarth.

TL;DR Go Forth and Explore the Angle of Mitheithel!

For a fairly small region, the Angle of Mitheithel is rich and varied. This is true whether talking about the enemies, foliage or rivers. The Sites and Enemies of the Angle Deeds are spread around the whole area, and rightly so! It’s important to appreciate the work game designers do for us to enjoy. So, go forth and complete the Explorer of Mitheithel Deed and have fun with it; this is a game after all!
