LOTRO League of the Axe Wildwood - Guide to quests and gaining reputation

The League of the Axe faction in the LOTRO Wildwood region is one of two groups keen to take advantage of the wood’s provision. Unlike the the Woodcutter’s Brotherhood, however, the League of the Axe are wanting to settle here. This guide will contain no story spoilers (which was true of my Brotherhood guide too) – it’s important to me that you enjoy the story as it unfolds – and it is a good one! Right, time for you to learn about the league. I hope you’re ready to prove yourself!

Where do I start the League of the Axe Quests?

Trader’s Wharf in Evendim
The League is based at Trader’s Wharf on the East side of the Brandywine River in Evendim. If you’re unsure how to reach it, pop over to my LOTRO Wildwood GuideExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab) for instructions. (this will open in a new window or tab, so you don’t lose your place here.)

All your main quest-givers and vendors are in this location.

League of the Axe NPCs

It looks like there are far more quest-givers here than in Trestlebridge. However, some of those marked as “League of the Axe” are part of the story as it develops, rather than having more repeatable quests.

Enid Nettlesting

LOTRO Enid Nettlesting, primary Quest-giver for the Wildwood League of the Axe storyline
Enid is your primary contact with the League of the Axe and it is mostly through her that the story will progress. This happens each time you reach a new level of reputation with the League.

Nye Crowfoot

Nye Crowfoot - the League of the Axe
Nye, along with Addy Rushtuft is a character involved in the League of the Axe story. He does not have any repeatable dailies.

Grun Curldock

Grun Curldock - Trader's Wharf
Grun has two daily repeatable quests available that grant League of the Axe reputation:

  1. Food on the Shores
  2. Traps in the Wild

Minda Heathertoes

LOTRO Minda Heathertoes at Trader's Wharf, where she starts her own questline.
The Hobbit Minda Heathertoes has her own story, which begins with her goods being stolen by brigands. This is why the poor girl is crying when you first meet her. The quests in her story do grant League of the Axe reputation. Her questline begins with Tumbled SuppliesExternal Link (Opens in New Window/Tab) (link goes to the Wiki).

Mal Knapweed

Mal Knapweed - the League of the Axe
Mal Knapweed has one daily repeatable quest available that grants League of the Axe reputation:

I bet you can’t guess what that quest will have you doing?!

Tegwen Spurrey

LOTRO Tegwen Spurry - League of the Axe Daily Repeatable Questgiver
Tegwen Spurrey has one daily repeatable quest available that grants League of the Axe reputation:

Addy Rushtuft

LOTRO Addy Rushtuft, League of the Axe
Addy, along with Nye Crowfoot is involved in the League of the Axe story. She does not have any repeatable quests.

Quartermaster

Quartermaster for League of the Axe tokens and Marks of the Wild
The Quartermaster at Trader’s Wharf has various goods available for sale. Here you can trade Marks of the WildMarks of the Wild and League of the Axe TokensLeague of the Axe Token.

Other NPCs

The other standard NPCs around here are:

  • Hobby-Master: there are fishing quests in the Wildwood, so if you have not learned the LOTRO Fishing Hobby, you can do so here. The Hobby-Master is fishing on the jetty.
  • Healer
  • Supplier
  • Provisioner
  • Dock-Master: Boats to Buckland, King’s Crossing, Tinnudir

There is no missions stable here as there’s no missions NPC. All Wildwood Missions are factionless quests but start at Radhril in Trestlebridge in the Woodcutter’s Brotherhood area.

Earning League of the Axe Reputation

Just as a heads-up, the maximum reputation you can achieve with the League is Ally. For the Brotherhood, it is Kindred. I suspect this is an RP thing, as you are not settling with them. You are a dependable ally, but you are not of their people. That’s guesswork, but it’s the best reason I could come up with.
Reputation Sources
As with the Brotherhood, earning League of the Axe reputationReputation is achieved through a combination of things:
  • Progressing the LotA Storyline
  • Completing the 10-Quest wrapper of factionless quests
  • Carrying out League-specific repeatable dailies
  • Completing the only LotA Deed
  • Consuming League of the Axe Tokens League of the Axe Token (please do remember to consume them! Default: Right Click). These give you 1,000 Reputation each, before any acceleration tomes.

Reputation Deeds?

LOTRO Ally to the League of the Axe, Reputation Deed
Ally to the League of the Axe (Max Rep!)
As I mentioned in my Woodcutter’s Brotherhood Guide, most deeds in the Wildwood do not grant reputation. However, the League does have one deed of its own.

This requires you to complete just 15 League Quests.

The only other reputation deeds are the…reputation increase deeds. This is only because they grant bonus League reputation tokensLeague of the Axe Token upon completing each standing level, rather than “direct rep”.

League of the Axe Tokens

Consumable League of the Axe Tokens League of the Axe Token. These are worth 1,000 Reputation each when consumed. This is before any bonuses through reputation acceleration tomes, for example. These tokens are awarded for completing LotA-specific quests as well as actual reputation for completing them.

Completing the LotA deed also grants a bonus 4×League of the Axe Token.

Be aware that rewards at the Quartermaster are available for both Tokens of the Wild Marks of the Wild and League of the Axe Tokens League of the Axe Token.

The League of the Axe (Deed)

Completing this deed gives you:

Reputation +700 with the League of the Axe

Daily 10-Quest Wrapper

Requires: The Wealth in Trust.

The League of the Axe (Daily)
Also rather inventively named, The League of the Axe (Daily) requires you to complete 10 × factionless quests in and around the Wildwood.
These can be

Daily Reward

  • Woodcutter’s Brotherhood Reputation: 1,200
  • 4 × League of the Axe Token (consume for +4,000 Reputation, or save to barter.)

The Wealth in Trust

Not Repeatable
Quest-Giver:
Enid Nettlesting.

Whether or not you can join the League of the Axe is not a decision that Enid makes. If you prove yourself worthy, then you can join it. There are two parts but with four components to the test given to you.

The Wealth in Trust Stages
Scouting | Collect Pelts | Collect Ore Samples | Repairs

Part 1: Scouting
The first part is to scout key locations within the Wildwood of Bree-land, while bringing back some ore samples and skins from creatures within the Wood.

Note: the creatures/enemies in these locations change from time-to-time. It's a dynamic I really love about the Wildwood.

Coordinates: 22.5S, 60.8W
Blomley Sward is geographical area that has no set landmarks – but you’re scouting areas for hunting purposes. Through some trees you’ll find a lovely view and some creatures milling about.
Helva’s Edge

Coordinates: 21.7S, 58.3W
The skyline at Helva’s Edge lets you see far into Evendim. This screenshot was taken after climbing up a rock nearby! There are many such rocks or mini-cliffs in the Wildwood. Go climbing and find some great screenshots!

Factionless Quests

Hunter’s Ledge
Hunter's Ledge - LOTRO Wildwood - The Wealth In Trust Quest Location
Hunter’s Ledge

Coordinates: 18.3S, 57.6W

If LOTRO wanted you to admire the Wildwood, they did a fabulous job of it. In various locations you can climb up high and survey the Wildwood. Maybe it’s time to be a #StopAndStare Hunter? Oh, yes, some animals or other will be here. That may change each day.

East-Delf
East Delf - LOTRO Wildwood - The Wealth in Trust - League of the Axe Quest
East Delf

Coordinates: 23.9S, 60.8W
The foes in this area change: you may find Orcs, Half-Orcs, Goblins or Brigands

Factionless Quests
These quests can trigger at either East or West-Delf, but not both on the same day.

West-Delf

Coordinates: 23.9S, 61.8W
The foes in this area change: you may find Orcs, Half-Orcs, Goblins or Brigands

Factionless Quests
These quests appear to only spawn at the East-delf, but can be completed across both delves.

The Wealth in Trust Stages
Scouting | Collect Pelts | Collect Ore Samples | Repairs

Collect Pelts × 8
I highly suggest you complete the collection of pelts before starting on the Ore, unless you spot some en route. The reason is that at the start of the quest, pretty much all of the Wildwood is marked as a quest target! Once you clear the pelts, the “mining zones” become much clearer.

Creatures that Drop Quest Pelts
This may not be a complete list, but here are some examples. In short, if getting an animal skin from the enemy is logical, then you’ll get a pelt. No, you cannot loot the leather clothes of Wandering Jorthkyn for you to take back to Enid Nettlesting. Though the stories you could tell…

  • Wildwood Bear
  • Moss-Mantle Cow
  • Howling Duskwolf
  • Wildwood Boar

Wargs and Warg-Riders do not count, neither for this quest, nor for the Wildwood Big Game Slayer deed.
Collect Ore Samples × 8
If you have the Mining profession, I’d advise turning off “Track Mines” to avoid confusing yourself. What you’re looking for is, what look like normal ore-gathering nodes, but simply labelled Ore. Oh, for the avoidance of confusion, you do not need the Mining profession to complete this.

There may be more than 8 nodes available, because when I only had one left to find, an area was still marked on the map.

Part 2: Carrying Out Repairs
Knowing the land is only part of the test. The other – and I really like this – is to test “your work ethic”. You need to repair some of the League of the Axe’s tools. All of these can be found around Trader’s Wharf. As items can be behind other objects or people, I suggest you put floaty names on.

Repair Bear Traps × 5

Most of these are, unsurprisingly on the jetty near where people would fish. One Fish Trap is in a boat.

Repeatable Dailies

As with the Woodcutter’s Brotherhood, there are four dailies that grant League of the Axe Reputation and Tokens.

League of the Axe Dailies
A Drift of Supplies | Food on the Shores | Sharpening Axes | Traps in the Wild

A Drift of Supplies

Quest-Giver: Tegwen Spurrey

The Writhenset mine is a key location in the League’s strategy, though I will not tell you why. However, as with all mines, they need to be safely supported. Tegwen, rightly, doesn’t want to cut down trees for this purpose. Instead, she proposes you utilise driftwood from the banks of the Brandywine.

You may as well clear A Drift of Supplies at the same time as Food on the Shores.

Collect Driftwood × 10
A Drift of Supplies - Driftwood
A Drift of Supplies – Driftwood
Rewards
  • Reputation +500
  • League of the Axe Token × 4 (worth 4,000Reputation or keep for bartering)

Food on the Shores

Quest-Giver: Grun Curldock

It’s all well and good wanting to settle at Trader’s Wharf, but you don’t want to go hungry in the process! Thankfully Grun has already started thinking of one source of food – fish from the Brandywine. There are a lot of nets you can check, but shockingly, if you use your eyes you can see which have fish in them. It’s not random chance!

You will, however, have to check North and South of Trader’s Wharf.

You can complete A Drift of Supplies and Food on the Shores together to save some running around.

Collect Fish × 10

So juicy-sweet!
Rewards
  • Reputation +500
  • League of the Axe Token × 4 (worth 4,000Reputation or keep for bartering)

Sharpening Axes

Quest-Giver: Mal Knappweed

Remember the whole “work ethic” push from The Wealth in Trust? Sharpening tools doesn’t just happen without – other tools. Yes “iron sharpens iron” and all that, but only if one or the other is already sharp! Anyway, Mal wants you to collect some whetstones to facilitate sharpening axes and knives. They’re not the League of the Blunt Axe, after all.

Here’s an example whetstone to keep you company.

LOTRO Sharpening Axes - Whetstone
Whetstone. Yay.
Collect Whetstone × 6
This is the zone where you’ll find the whetstones, on/near the rockier parts of the hill.

  • 20.0S, 59.9W
  • 19.9S, 60.2W
  • 20.4S, 59.9W
  • 20.8S, 60.1W
Sharpen Dull Axes × 6
You then just need to head back to Trader’s Wharf and locate 6 Dull Axes and sharpen them.
Rewards
  • Reputation +500
  • League of the Axe Token × 4 (worth 4,000Reputation or keep for bartering)

Traps in the Wild

Quest-Giver: Grun Curldock

Trapping creatures (and hunting sustainably) is a key part of the League’s way of life. Traps sat idling around the Wharf are not fulfilling their purpose, so Grun wants you to set them in places through the Wildwood.

To see where the traps can go, especially during the daytime, put floaty names on (default key: N). What you’re looking for are points marked as a Good Trap Location.

Set Traps × 8
Here are nine locations I found on this run:
  1. 23.0S, 61.3W
  2. 22.9S, 61.4W
  3. 22.7S, 61.5W
  4. 22.6S, 61.5W
  5. 22.6S, 61.7W
  6. 22.7S, 61.8W

Reputation Rewards

I don’t want to duplicate what I have on another post, so you can see the list of League of the Axe rewards on my Wildwood Guide.

TL;DR Help the League of the Axe make the Wildwood Home!

The story that develops for the League of the Axe is really intriguing and it’s taken all my willpower not to say anything about it! Gaining the maximum reputation with the League (which is Ally standing, remember!) is not difficult and there are tons of rewards to be had on top of the stories. I really encourage you to get into LOTRO’s Wildwood of Bree-land for yourself and get stuck in!
