Humbert Thornburrow appears to have run all the way from Staddle in Bree-land. Through his panting, he is glad to have caught you before you can celebrate Farmers Faire. The reason for his breathless arrival? Staddle is under attack and only someone brave can rescue the imperilled Hobbits.
Let’s have a looksie at what’s going on.
What Is Staddle Besieged?
Staddle Besieged is a Farmers Faire questing area introduced in 2025. It includes six new quests and one wrapper, hitting seven of your daily ten.
It also has the added bonus of being outside of the Shire, hopefully reducing crowding in Hobbiton-Bywater.
How Do You Start the Staddle Quests at Farmers Faire?
- If you are doing it for the first time, speak to Humbert Thornburrow in Bywater. He is near the barter vendors at
31.9S, 69.8W. - When you want to repeat it, you can go straight to Staddle and speak with Constable Tanglerush (
31.1-S, 49.5W). Pick up the repeatable quest Staddle Besieged. - Update: You can, in fact, bypass speaking to Humbert Thornburrow, you’d miss Constable Tanglerush’s reaction to Humbert’s description of what’s happening at Staddle.
Do You Need the Wrapper?
I think you can do all the quests without the wrapper. But if you’re going to do all of them, you get 10 × Farmers Faire Tokens and additional Legendary Item XP. So you may as well pick it up.
And it adds a seventh quest to your daily target of 10 with no extra effort, so I’d recommend it.
Staddle Besieged? What’s Going On?
It does not exactly have war machinery rolling in – Staddle is hardly of strategic military importance. Though I guess if Bree were attacked, controlling Staddle would help. But I’m distracting myself – and you.
However, the Hobbits of Staddle do feel threatened by creatures who are rampaging through the village. They’re stealing vegetables, fruit, pipe-weed and books. Wait? Did I say pipe-weed and books? Yes I did.
Your Mission Should You Choose to Accept It…
The creatures – Shrews and Cave-claws have their headquarters in a massive cave that just opened up in the nearby fields. All of the Hobbits are scared to go in, but want all of their stuff out. What to do, what to do? Oh yes, pay someone else to face the dangers.
Your job is to address the concerns and return belongings – and Hobbits – to the locals. Yes, Hobbits need returning too.
Where is the Cave?
You can find the cave (or “Shrew-tunnel” as some call it) south-east(ish) of Staddle itself at 31.8S, 48.8W.
But, honestly, even I didn’t miss it, so you’ll be fine!
Note: While all the quest-givers are on the landscape, all the quest objectives are inside the cave.
The Staddle Quests
You can pick up the Farmers Faire Staddle quests in two places: Staddle village itself (4) and outside the massive cave entrance (2).
Here are the quests in alphabetical order.
Notes on Respawning Items
I have done my best to provide all the possible locations of items inside the tunnels. However, respawn timers inside seem particularly short. Or at least, they were when I was in on my own. This means you can pick up the same “item” twice, with the exception being Vanished Valuables as that requires special, named, items.
Kick Out the Cave-claws
- Quest-giver: Maginard Foxbolt (
31.1S, 49.3W) - Objectives:
- Get Claw Kickin’ Boots from the nearby crate.
- Kick Thieving Cave-claws × 6
Quest Notes
This quest is so fun! Much better than Shrew-stomping at Spring Festival. But before you get kick-happy, here’s a tip:
Inside a Cave-claw den/nest/hole, you may find loot. So far I’ve found different pipe-weed varieties and…rotting vegetables. Let me know if you find anything more interesting!
How to Kick a Cave-claw
- Open up your bags (the I key by default) and drag the boots icon to a space in your quickbars.
- Target a Cave-claw inside the cave
- Press the quickbar button and watch the claw fly awaaaaaay!
- Loot the nest before the Cave-claw returns. Once a claw is on it you can’t loot it.
Looting the Nest
This is not a requirement of the quest, but you can get some neat loot items, such as pipe-weed. I am not calling the previously-mentioned “rotting vegetables” as “neat”.
Lost Hobbits
- Quest-giver: Camelia Buttonbloom (
31.8S, 48.8W) - Objective: Find Lost Hobbits × 4
Remember The Great Hobbit Rescue from Fall Festival? Well, you have exactly the same problem: Hobbits getting lost in a place due to their own curiosity.
Obviously those too terrified to go into the tunnel think the worst has happened to those inside. But just to make sure, Camelia sends you in. I guess she hopes you’ll come out? Or she’ll just keep sending hapless adventurers in, due to some weird twisted humour? Okay, that got dark real quick.
Lost Hobbits Quest Notes
There are precisely four Lost Hobbits and all show quest icons in the mini-map. But they also respawn (some people don’t learn their lesson) and as far as I can see, you can help the same Hobbit twice.
But do consider other players before doing this, please.

Rescuing the Vegetables
- Quest-giver: Corbo Tunnelly (
31.1S, 49.5W) - Objective: Recover 12 vegetables from the shrew tunnels.
Quest Notes
There are different vegetables to be found:
- Beets
- Cabbage
- Tater
- Yellow Onion
One quest to rule all the vegetables and in your quest log bind them. Until tomorrow, anyway.
I did take pictures of vegetables, but I really don’t think you need that much hand-holding!

Saving the Apples
- Quest-giver: Habbo Greenwort (
31.1S 49.5W) - Objective: Recover 12 apples from the shrew tunnels. Hope the shrews didn’t manage to eat them all in one night.
Quest Notes
In the tradition of Apple Shopping at Farmers Faire, the apples come in three colours: Green, Red and Gold.
There are no wormy apples to pick up (at least none I’ve found so far…).

Shooing Shrews
- Quest-giver: Nila Brambleberry (
31.8S, 48.8W) - Objectives:
- Shoo Shrews × 8
- Destroy Shrew Nests × 8
Quest Notes
Nila wants the Shrews gone, but doesn’t want you to hurt or kill any of them. So, she reckons, “Shooing them” should get the message across. You can try, I guess!
- You don’t need the
/shooemote (which is a good thing as you have to get it from Filbert Fig). - Shrews are marked on the mini-map with rings, though you’ll see the real thing first!
- Some shrews stay roughly in place, others wander around.
- You don’t need to get rid of shrews before you can destroy their nests. (This is different to Kick Out the Cave-claws)
For Shooing Shrews, my dots are approximate. Some also appear to follow a path and de-spawn. I have placed dots where I saw them, rather than where you are 100% guaranteed to find them. The cave isn’t huge, so just use your eyes.

Vanished Valuables
- Quest-giver: Fredegunda Cutt (
31.2S, 49.3W) - Objectives: To Find and Return:
- Ponto Underhill’s Shovel
- Sarabeth Lowbank’s Book
- Ferdibrand Took’s Pipe
- Ethelina Burr’s Teapot
- Ferumbras Attereeve’s Lucky* Tankard
- Pell Stoneleaf’s Whittling Knife
* This is called …favourite tankard inside the tunnels.

Vanished Valuables Map
Where to Return the Items?
The Bree-land map does not lend itself to adding small dots and you can’t zoom in on Staddle. So here are the NPC coordinates:
- Ponto: 31.0S, 48.7W
- Sarabeth: 31.1S, 49.4W
- Ferdibrand: 31.0S, 48.7W
- Ethelina: 31.1S, 49.4W
- Ferumbras: 31.1S, 49.6W
- Pell: Inside the Weapons and Armour Shop
Quest Notes
Vanished Valuables is the one quest where you cannot pick up multiple items from one spawn point. Farmers Faire has a “theme” of lost items, such as Too Much Festival.
At least this time, the Hobbits can claim that the Shrews really wanted to read a book, or take up wood carving…hmm?
All-Quests Map
I had hoped to do summaries of the quests and just provide one map (to rule them all). But, in reality, there are so many dots I was finding it hard to follow.
But, in case you do want one point of reference, the full map is below.
Enjoy!
Shrew Burrow Notes
- Items and Shrews respawn really quickly. At least it seemed that way when I was there on my own.
- For many quests, there are more items than you need to find. Don’t be precioussss about other players finding “your” items first.
- For Vanishing Valuables, there is one location per item. As far as I’ve seen.
- As with Shrew Stomping in Spring Festival, you will need to slot the boots to your quickbars.
TL;DR Staddle Besieged – Well, not really, but the Hobbits Do Need Help
Don’t they always, though? Myrlas, pictured kicking a Cave-claw, is a Hobbit and even he shakes his head at his own people at times. Although Staddle is clearly not at war, people’s real lives face real challenges.
It’s easy to belittle people that have “little” problems. But if you’d lost your stock and fruit was your trade, that’s a day’s income lost. So go on, help the Hobbits out, tell them where’s no need to be afraid of the Big Bad Shrew. There’s plenty of Cave-claws for everyone to kick too – providing you swallow your Hobbitty pride and wear some solid boots!
